Back in the saddle

Alright, so I am a bit behind on blogging.  By about 6 months.  So I've decided to switch up the way I write. Instead of writing about big events, I am going to try going back to the weekly roundup.  I hope to be more regular and committed this way.  I don't want to forget so many details.  So without further adieu, let us begin!

The boys have finally finished up their soccer season.  For a few weeks we have had double duty with both baseball and soccer going on.  Sunshine and Tornado both had great seasons.  Tornado usually scored goals in every game (scoring 9 his first game) and Sunshine had the funniest kick ever in a game.  He lined up for a monster kick towards the goal.  Two defenders were in front of the goal.  The kick ricocheted from one defender's head to the other's head, to the ground.  A kick that will live forever in infamy.  Tornado has started and finished t-ball and did great.  He's had a couple of homeruns.  Sunshine has started machine pitch and their season has a few more games left.

Last Saturday we had a neat evening.  I was asked to sing at a walking fireside, at the halfway point of the walk.  It was a 5k and midway we met at the duck pond by Lone Peak high school.  We went early to set up all of our sound equipment and then Thunder stayed guard while the kids and I got to participate in the walk.  When the time came I sang a song called "The Tender Behind the Mercy" by Hilary Weeks.  It went really well and then we all finished the walk.  Thunder packed everything up and met us at the end.  We all thought about I met some new friends that work for Deseret Book and it was a great night for everyone.

On Monday we went over to the library and Cloudburst finally got something very special... her own library card!  She was stoked.  On Wednesday I got to attend a surprise baby shower for a dear friend having baby #6.  It's fun to be deceptive for a good cause ;-)  Thursday we headed up to the cabin so I could do about 100 loads of laundry left over from random use during Girls Camp the previous week.  While we were there we took a rhino ride to where Thunder had been stranded while snowmobiling a few months ago.  I was shocked at how remote and far-removed it was, and grateful once again for the divine help they had in their rescue.

Friday was the day kids love and adults love to hate: parade day!  It is Lehi Roundup Days week and it culminates in a big parade.  Our church does a float every year, and this year we had a movie theme.  Cloudburst was Cinderella, Sunshine was a cowboy and helped pull the float, Tornado was Thor and Sunrise was a transformer.  Tornado stole the show by throwing his hammer far up into the air and catching it to amuse spectators.  He got lots of claps and shout outs.  The rest of us were just glad to get water and a popsicle at the end.

December Mash up

Why is it that everything is scheduled in December?  Every concert, performance and party gets crammed into a few short weeks.  At least it's a fun kind of energy!  We took the youth up to Temple Square to see the lights and we had a great group.

Tornado stole the show in his kindergarten Christmas music concert...

... and Sunshine wrote a very ironic poem about Wilbur the pig.

We rode the new Frontrunner train for the first time!  Very cool.

Tornado excelled on his basketball team, scoring in nearly every game.

We visited a live nativity put on in Alpine.  There were live animals, Roman soldiers and long lines.  We didn't make it til the end, due to the long hours in the cold.

Thunder had a great birthday!

He loved his presents from the kids the most.

We took our trip to see the lights on his birthday, so some of the leaders surprised him with cupcakes.

The boys really loved the choir-side our youth sang in.

A little bored one day...

... and a sweet project on another day.

Sunrise's preschool class got to visit the post office.  How fun!  I had never visited there before either.

The cabin has the best sledding.

We went down to Provo for their huge New Year's Eve party! The whole mall was transformed into kid fun stations and demonstrations.  We had a great time.  But we were still home by 9:00  :-)

Christmas

We loved our first Christmas at the cabin and were so excited to go back.  We love being able to relax and have a slower pace for a few days.  At least, it's slower after Christmas.  Pre-Christmas is just crazy, no matter where we are!  We enjoyed having family come to visit.  We played games, ate good food, slept in (when the children permitted), went snowmobiling and sledding, and just talked a lot.
