International Feast

I was trying to describe the Olympics to the kids when I came across this website that had great ideas for Olympic-themed ideas. Then in the afternoon, Thunder, my brother and I were talking and got the idea to make our own parade of international dishes for dinner! So after using pretty much all of our pots and pans we were ready to eat truly diverse cuisine. The most daring dish we tried is a traditional Russian drink called Sbiten. It has honey, fresh mint (from my garden, yea!), cloves, cinnamon and ginger in it; it tasted kind of like spicey hot cider. I'm not sure we'll make it all the time, but it will make a great drink for cold winter nights.
China= rice
Italy= breadsticks
USA= brownies
Russia= Sbiten
Germany= Choco Leibniz
Belgium= Belgian Chocolate
Canada= broiled/pan fried halibut
France= crepes with cream, strawberries and peaches

We also just watched the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics, and I thought it was just beautiful. I was struck at the absolute precision that made all the performers appear to move as one. Unity, it itself, can be a thing of beauty.
